The History of the NACCP/How it was started GROW!
The NAACP (The National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People) was founded on the great month of February and
on the great day of 12th in the year 1909. It was founded by a very great
diverse group of African Americans and those members was Dubois, Ida B. Wells,
Archibald Grimke, Henry Moscowitz, Mary WhiteOvington, Oswald Garrison Villard,
William English Walling, and Florence Kelly those was the great people that
started the NAACP. Some of the reason why the NAACP was founded was the
struggles that the black African American race was dealing with.
1905 a group of 32 African Americans and they
met to discuss their problems with people that was facing the same problem they
was dealing with and that was the black and white segregation problem. The
African American race was being treated wrong for all the wrong reasons. During
this period there was segregation in the south men who had been voting for over
30 years was now told that they can no longer be able to vote. A lot of the
hotels and restaurant were segregated. So the men convened under the leadership
of the great W.E.B. Dubois at a hotel Fort Erie hotel to be exact. This was on
the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls in Fort Erie, Ontario this group became
known as the Niagara movement. The group struggle at the time so much because
the lock of resources and internal conflict so they disbanded in 1910 and
joined the NAACP. The NAACP was incorporated in 1911 by this time the group had
gained 6,000 members and 50 branches. They then started to lead lawsuits
targeting disfranchisement and segregation early in its history.
The NAACP is a
nonprofit program and the main reason they are is because when they started at
the time it was hard for black African Americans to own their own business so
the other black great African Americans took out their time to help the
organization out because it was a good cause and they felt their struggles.
Also, the better known black African Americans showed great support to lead
this organization to be its best.
In
conclusion, the mission of the NAACP was simple the mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and
economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based
discrimination. Also, the vision is to ensure a society in which
all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race. Some of
the NAACP value/objectives are as follow that are found on the first page of
the NAACP constitution is to ensure the political, educational,
social, and economic equality of all citizens

equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the
United States
